“We conceived of the competition as a call to action, as a catalyst for anyone with the ambition to make a film to do just that. We’ve been encouraged by the response, and grateful for the introduction to such inventive and imaginative work, especially from new and emerging filmmakers.”
Many thanks to all who entered the inaugural Francis Ford Coppola Director’s Short Film Competition. We appreciate the opportunity to consider your films.
From more than a thousand submissions, judge Roman Coppola honored the following:
Sombras (Shadows) by Jon Ayon (Oakland, CA)
This Vacuum Is Too Loud by Gus Péwé (Horton, MI)
Upside Down Feeling by Odessa Young (Los Angeles, CA)
Banging Ideas by Matt Nelsen (Brooklyn, NY)
The King’s Betrayal by David Bornstein (Los Angeles, CA)
Jon Ayon will receive the Grand Prize of $5,000, and his film and those of the other four finalists screened in a special private premiere event hosted by Francis Ford Coppola Winery at the Holiday Village Cinemas in Park City, UT, on January 19, during the Sundance Film Festival.
You can view all five films at the Coppola Club now
