American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest The 6th Annual Screenplay Contest, www.zoetrope.com/contests, closed for submissions on Sept. 4. The winner and finalists will be announced Feb. 2 at this website. The Grand Prize is $5,000 and the winning and top-ten finalist screenplays will be considered for development by dozens of leading production companies; the writers will be considered for representation by the top talent agencies. Francis Coppola and the AZ staff judge. All-Story's Summer Edition The latest issue features brilliant artwork and design by Mark Mothersbaugh, including four limited-edition pull-out postcards. Among the issue's contributors are Sana Krasikov, Yasutaka Tsutsui, and film legend John Hughes, who presents a terrific essay alongside his short story "Vacation ’58," which inspired the classic movie Vacation, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of that film's release. The King of California, an AZ contest top-ten finalist, now on DVD The script was discovered in AZ's 2004 Screenplay Contest; it was subsequently optioned and developed by Michael London Productions, one of the dozens of production companies that receive the top scripts for consideration. The screenwriter, Mike Cahill, directed the film, which stars Michael Douglas and Evan Rachel Wood.
